Since the opening of our [Upstairs] wine lounge in November 2005, we have decided that we would like to offer informal, informative, and fun wine classes for our customers.
With the expansion of The Kitchen, we have added numerous labels of wine in house, and want to make wine more approachable for drinkers of all levels. We are hoping classes will help our customers understand some basic knowledge of wine and become more comfortable with varying their choices.
This class is a good introduction to learning tasting techniques and a "proper" evaluation of wine. The class features a tasting of four different wines with dominant characteristics (sweet, oak, acid, fruit) with a focus on a specific tasting process that evaluates the appearance, nose, and palate of each wine.
The wine class is always held on the third Tuesday of the month, and led by Ray Decker, our General Front of House Manager and Sommelier. Ray's passion and expertise help him hand pick all of the drinks that we serve [Upstairs] along with our daily Tasting Hour 'Vin Du Jour'.
Upcoming Class: "Old World Classics" - Tuesday, March 18th 5:30PM
Due to the popularity of last month's 'classics' wine class, we are going to be continuing with this series for the next couple of months.
Do you know what makes a bottle of wine a 'classic'?
Many might answer that it's high quality grapes, the tradition of craftsmanship, and the ability to age well. Beyond this, the French would say that the immutable agent 'terroir', is at play. Terroir, originally a word used to describe coffee, tea, and wine, means 'a sense of place' and is used to denote the special characteristics that geography has bestowed upon these crops. Soil, sun, rain, topography...they all conspire with all the obvious classic elements to help create these superior wines.
Join sommeliers, Karim Boulet and Ray Decker as they open up The Kitchen's cellar for an intimate evening with the following classics:
Domaine Martelet de Cherisey Meursault - Blagny 1er Cru "La Genelotte" Burgundy FR 2004 (Magnum) Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo D.O.C.G. Piedmont IT 2001 (Magnum) Rene Renou Bonnezeaux Moelleux "Cuvee Anne" Loire Valley FR 1997 (750ml)
